Getting out of bed in the morning can be difficult for some, a deep sleep suddenly disturbed by a blaring alarm coming from a smart phone in a demand for you to start your day. For Lily Brasch, getting out of bed in the morning presents an entirely different kind of challenge. Brasch, who turns 22 on Dec. 26, has centronuclear myopathy, a rare form of muscular dystrophy characterized by muscle weakness and atrophy in the skeletal muscles, which are the muscles used for movement. The simple act of getting out of bed is not something she takes for granted, which makes her most recent accomplishment seem miraculous.
