U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has said he believes it is likely that a COVID-19 vaccine for children under 12 will be given emergency use authorization during the next school year. Murthy made the remarks during an appearance on the “Skimm This” podcast. “What are the odds that a vaccine for kids under 12 will be approved during the next school year?” Murthy was asked as part of the podcast’s “lightening round.” Murthy responded by saying that he thinks that “the odds are high.” COVID-19 vaccines are currently not available for children under the age of 12 in the United States.
