The United States does not plan to use chemical weapons even if Russia uses them in Ukraine, a top U.S. official said on March 25. “There will be a severe price if Russia uses chemical weapons,” U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Air Force One as it flew in Europe. “I won’t go beyond that other than to say the United States has no intention of using chemical weapons, period, under any circumstance,” Sullivan added. U.S. President Joe Biden told reporters Thursday that the United States or NATO would respond if Russian President Vladimir Putin deployed chemical weapons.
