Two U.S. Navy warships sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Aug. 28, the first time since the Chinese regime ramped up military pressure on the self-ruled island in retaliation to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit earlier this month.
Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers USS Antietam and USS Chancellorsville were conducting a routine transit, the 7th Fleet said in a statement. The U.S. vessels “transited through a corridor in the Strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal State,” it added.
“The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States’ commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” read the statement….
