Britain’s House of Commons has approved the government’s plan to ease strike disruptions by allowing businesses to supply agency workers to plug staffing gaps during industrial action.
MPs voted 289 to 202 on July 11 in favour of removing the restrictions on businesses supplying temporary agency workers to cover striking staff.
The regulations were brought forward in response to the widespread chaos in Britain’s rail network in recent weeks caused by strike action by over 40,000 members of the Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers’ union (RMT).
The move will overturn a legal restriction introduced under former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair that prevents employers from hiring agency workers to cover for striking staff….
