The UK economy performed better than expected in May as demand for health services and holidays offset the inflationary pressure on spending in shops, latest official figures show.
According to new data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), GDP grew by 0.5 percent in May, rebounding from a 0.2 percent drop in April.
Darren Morgan, director for economic statistics at the ONS, said that the economy rebounded in May with growth across all main sectors.
Health was the biggest driver as many more people went to see their doctors, he said.
The travel sector also fared well with pent-up demand for summer holidays. The ONS said output in the travel agency and tour operation industry surged by 11 percent in May….
