Companies in the UK will be required to publish plans of decarbonising and transitioning to net zero, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak told COP26 on Wednesday. Speaking at the global climate summit in Glasgow, Sunak said the new mandate is part of the UK’s plan to become “theĀ first ever net zero aligned financial centre.” “This means we are going to move towards making it mandatory for firms to publish a clear deliverable plan, setting out how they will decarbonise and transition to net zero with an independent task force to define what’s required,” he said. It’s understood the task force will be comprised of members from universities, civil society groups, industry, and regulators.
