Thousands of unionized teachers and researchers at University of California campuses across the state are planning to strike beginning Nov. 14 citing unfair working conditions.
About 36,500 union members, represented by the United Auto Workers—an international union representing workers in a variety of sectors, from hospitals to universities—voted overwhelmingly to approve the strike Nov. 2.
Teachers, researchers, and others are preparing to participate in a complete work stoppage during the strike, according to the union.
“The week of November 14 could see the largest academic worker strike in US history. It will impact everyone, not just those of us in the bargaining units. All support makes a difference,” UC San Diego Ph.D. candidate Maya Gosztyla wrote on Twitter after the union vote….
