Officials have already completed their examination of documents that were taken during a raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, said the Department of Justice in a Monday court filing in response to Trump’s efforts to have a special master first review the documents.
The Department of Justice’s “privilege review team” was tasked with reviewing the documents, said prosecutors in the legal brief on Monday morning (pdf), coming in response to a ruling by U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon to hold a hearing on Trump’s motion to seek a special master.
That filter team also “identified a limited set of materials that potentially contain attorney-client privileged information, completed its review of those materials, and is in the process of following the procedures,” according to the Justice Department’s filing, which added that the review was carried out before Trump’s request.
