Former President Donald Trump on Jan. 29 floated pardoning people facing charges linked to the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. Speaking at a rally in Texas, Trump said he may use pardons if he wins the 2024 presidential election. “If I run, and I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly. We will treat them fairly,” Trump said. “And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons, because they are being treated so unfairly.” Trump, who has hinted that he will run again but has said he won’t announce his intentions until after the 2022 midterm elections, also criticized the House of Representatives panel that’s probing the breach and the officials who are in charge of prisons holding Jan. 6 defendants, saying what they’re doing “is a disgrace.” As of Jan. 6, more than 725 people have been charged with crimes related to …
