Former President Donald Trump through a lawyer and White House officials placed pressure on Department of Justice officials to probe the 2020 election results, according to newly released emails. Mark Meadows, who was Trump’s chief of staff at the time, sent in late December 2020 and early January a slew of messages to acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen regarding fraud allegations. In one email, Meadows sent a petition to contest the election from Trump and David Shafer, the Georgia Republican Party chairman, to Rosen. “Can you have your team look into these allegations of wrongdoing. Only the alleged fraudulent activity. Thanks Mark,” the email stated. The petitioners on Jan. 7 voluntarily withdrew the petition.
