Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced nearly $170 million in new funding for the Indo-Pacific region, including investing in Canadian government offices, to “deepen” trade ties and defend Canadian interests in the region.
The announcement came on the tail end of Trudeau’s visit to Bangkok, Thailand, for theĀ 2022 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, where he met with leaders from a number of economies in the region.
The new funding allots $45 million to launch a number of “Minister-ledĀ trade missions” to the Indo-Pacific, which will include visits to Canadian chambers of commerce to “facilitate long-term trade and investment opportunities,” according to a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office….
