Democrat Troy Carter won the runoff round of the special election for the Louisiana U.S. House seat vacated by former Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.), who had stepped down to serve in the White House after being nominated by President Joe Biden. According to the Louisiana Department of State, Carter defeated fellow Democrat Karen Peterson 55-45. Unofficial figures peg the turnout in the election at 16.6 percent.
