As a toxicologist I am often asked exactly what is it I do as a toxicologist?  Is there something I do that makes me a toxicologist after over 40 years of work?  The closest I can get is to say that I prevent bad things from happening to good things.  In other words, by taking a precautionary approach I try to prevent harm. “When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically (Wingspread Conference, 1998).” The primary elements of the precautionary principle can be summarized as “do no harm” and “take action even if there is uncertainty.” Epiprecaution requires us to include the entire environment of the developing and mature individual into consideration.
