Thousands of Canadian doctors and nurses are leaving Canada to work in the United States, according to new research from think tank SecondStreet.org.
According to the research, released June 20, American states along the U.S.–Canada border have issued almost 10,000 licenses to nurses and doctors with Canadian addresses.
Meanwhile, the Angus Reid Institute estimates that over 6 million Canadians do not have a family doctor, and many provinces are reporting severe nursing shortages, according to a research paper by SecondStreet.org.
The data was obtained from state licensing bodies along the border. Data was also obtained from a national body that confirms credentials for foreign nurses who want to work in the United States….
