In a recently published article, Andrew Thornebrooke reports on the “massive disruptions” that artificial intelligence (AI) technology will likely cause. A meeting of the American Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law heard that the “explosion of popularly availably AI tools like ChatGPT will profoundly affect society as early as next year.”
Similarly, in Australia, the Human Rights Commissioner, Lorraine Finlay, also warned that it will become more difficult to distinguish fact from fiction and to combat “the growing threat posed by deep fakes and disinformation created and spread using generative AI tools.”
The increasing use of robots—”chatbots”—in the publishing world is comparable to the revolution instigated by the invention of the printing press in the 15th century that “served as a harbinger for a more empowered civilization and increased liberty throughout Europe.”…
