Commentary The announcement that Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one ranked tennis player, had received a medical exemption from compulsory vaccination to enable him to participate in the Australian Open was received in Australia with disbelief. Djokovic himself announced the news on social media on Tuesday, and Australians, including most sports commentators, had reacted disgustedly to the information. The federal government has since announced its decision to cancel Djokovic’s visa, ending his opportunity to chase his 10th victory at the Australian Open and, more importantly, the elusive 21st Grand Slam, which would trump the 20 Grand Slam victories of Federer and Nadal.
