Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday criticized the vetting of National Guard troops who are guarding Washington, calling it offensive. “This is the most offensive thing I’ve ever heard,” Abbott, a Republican, said in a social media statement. “No one should ever question the loyalty or professionalism of the Texas National Guard.” Texas sent more than 1,000 guardsmen to Washington to help secure the nation’s capital before and during the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. “I’ll never do it again if they are disrespected like this,” Abbott said. No other governors had appeared to react to the vetting, according to a review of their social media pages.
