Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law new legislation on June 15 aimed at protecting the integrity of women’s sports by banning biological males who identify as female from competing in women’s collegiate sports.
Senate Bill 15, also known as the state’s “Save Women’s Sports Act” builds on previous legislation passed by Abbott in 2021 that men and boys who identify as female in K–12 schools from participating on sports teams that do not align with their biological sex.
Under the newly-signed bill, an intercollegiate athletic team sponsored or authorized by an institution of higher education is banned from allowing biological males to compete in competitions designated for biological females….
