LOS ANGELES—Rain and snow will make a dramatic return to the Southland overnight, with precipitation expected to start after midnight and continue into Thursday, potentially dropping several inches of rain and bringing a few feet of snow to the mountains. A winter storm warning took effect at 1 a.m. Wednesday and remain in place until 4 a.m. Friday in the Los Angeles County mountains, excluding the Santa Monica range. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), “heavy snow” is possible, with 1 to 3 feet accumulating above 5,000 feet, and “light snow” falling as low as 4,000 feet. The snow will be accompanied by winds of 35 to 40 mph, with higher-elevation gusts of up to 60 mph. “Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” according to the NWS.
