Italian club Juventus confirmed that United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) midfielder Weston McKennie suffered broken bones in his left foot during a European Champions League match versus Spain’s Villarreal on Tuesday night. McKennie is expected to miss 8 to 12 weeks recovering from compound fractures in the second and third metatarsals in his left foot following a hard tackle from behind by Villarreal’s Pervis Estupinan in the 80th minute. McKennie will miss the final three games for the United States in North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) World Cup qualifying, resuming March 24 against rival Mexico at Azteca Stadium, Panama, on March 27, and finally Costa Rica on March 30. The United States currently sits second in CONCACAF qualifying with 21 points, one point behind Canada and ahead of Mexico on goal-differential.
