The “Pillar of Shame” that had been erected at the University of Hong Kong since 1997 to commemorate the June 4 massacre was dismantled and removed by the university at the end of 2021. Danish sculptor Jens Galschiøt, creator of the Pillar, issued a statement a few days ago, saying that The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has not responded to his request to remove the Pillar from Hong Kong and questioned that the HKU has deliberately prevented the sculpture from taking his property abroad.
The whole saga has been delayed for a year since the end of 2021. Galschiøt said in a statement that he had found a shipping company and a hauling company to remove the sculpture at any time and planned to display it in Denmark.
