SYDNEY, Australia—”It was fluidity and poetry in motion,” said former champion ballroom dancer Maria Lena Gavranich after watching New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Gavranich’s involvement in music and dance spans a lifetime. She was formerly a professional ballroom and Latin dancer and has won many awards. She is currently teaching fitness and pilates. “I thought it was spectacular,” Gavranich said. As a lover of dance and music, Gavranich appreciated the effort and discipline necessary to achieve the perfection seen in a Shen Yun performance. “And I really enjoyed the costumes, the color—it was quite sensational. So very impressive,” she said. “For me, it was just well-executed. And they made it look easy.
