A senior peer has called for legislation to “drastically limit” the use of facial recognition technology (FRT) after chilling claims it is being used by stalkers and predators.
Baroness Jenny Jones told The Epoch Times that the government must put in place a “structure for scrutiny” over public and private use of citizens’ biometric data.
Last week, a hard-hitting report by privacy group Big Brother Watch revealed how the growth of facial recognition surveillance is getting “out of control” in the UK.
As well as highlighting the rise of FRT in schools, the civil liberties group said facial surveillance is being used without the public’s knowledge in shops and by police on the street….
