The City of San Clemente, California, recently move forward with a Community Choice Energy (CCE) program, but opted to go with a different program than what other Orange County cities have been joining. The formation allows the CCE to buy and sell energy, which provides citizens within the cities with a choice of getting their energy from the CCE or from the traditional route through Southern California Edison. Earlier this year, Orange County’s first CCE was created, known as the Orange County Power Authority (OCPA), which seeks to provide more renewable energy to homes and businesses while at the same time giving an opportunity to save a minimal amount of money. The OCPA started with Irvine, though a number of cities have opted to join on, including Huntington Beach, Fullerton, and Buena Park.
