As environmental groups and activists demand Australia do more to address climate concerns, energy experts have issued their own warning around Australia’s energy security amid an accelerated proliferation of renewable power. The Australian government’s Energy Security Board urged the prime minister and state premiers that Australia’s grid infrastructure was in need of a complete overhaul to cope with a rapid shift towards more solar and wind energy. In particular, the board listed two must-haves amid a transition to more renewables: ensuring reliable energy supply and stabilising grid frequency.
