The Quebec government is resurrecting the nightly curfew starting on Dec. 31, lasting from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. Quebec Premier Francois Legault said in a Thursday press conference that the curfew is in place for an indefinite period of time. “It’s an extreme action to take,” Legault said, “because the situation is extreme.” He added that once the public health situation is under control the curfew would be the first health order the government would remove. The premier also announced that restaurants are required to close their dining rooms on Friday, to only provide takeout services. The reinstated curfew, along with other public health restrictions, came in light of rising COVID-19 cases and the rapid spread of the Omicron variant.
