A prisoner has had his jail sentence extended by five years for sending a letter from his cell threatening to kill a member of the British Parliament. Rakeem Malik, 54, a Muslim convert who was born Paul Anthony Harrison, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday for threatening to kill Labour MP Jess Phillips. Malik was already serving a five-year sentence, imposed in June 2020, for threatening to kill and rape Phillips and Rosie Cooper, another Labour MP. He also sent malicious communications to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and said he “would eat” former Prime Minister Theresa May. Malik was charged on Aug. 4 with sending another threatening letter to Philips in November last year, and sending a threatening letter to a member of the public in the same month.
