Some say there’s a crisis at the southern border of the United States, some say illegal immigration is out of control, and others fear drug or human smuggling. Some say there’s no problem at all. So what is happening at the border? We decided to go there and see it for ourselves. We went to Hidalgo, Texas, where the U.S. border can be seen, as well as part of the border wall. On this side of the fence, residents come to this location to enjoy the scenery and to appreciate nature. Why are so many people willing to risk everything to cross the border into the United States? The freedom and safety we have here, which we often take for granted, is one reason. The wish for a higher standard of living is another.
