The Port Jervis City School District is poised to take on a significantly bigger spending plan next year without raising the tax levy or dipping into the fund balance, according to a budget presentation on Feb. 16.
The budget is proposed to be close to $90 million, up from $82 million in the current year, with the property tax levy remaining flat at $29 million.
It is the biggest year-over-year budget increase the district has seen in the last decade, according to Assistant Superintendent for Business John Timm.
The budget bump is largely brought by a historic influx of federal and state aid, which is projected to hit over $58 million next school year. …
