LOS ANGELES—A woman allegedly armed with a handgun was shot and wounded by Los Angeles police after a standoff near a homeless encampment in the downtown Los Angeles area, authorities said Oct. 7. The standoff began about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday after Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers responded to a call regarding a female suspect with a gun in the area of Spring and Arcadia streets near the Hollywood (101) Freeway, the LAPD reported. “When they arrived in the area they heard gunshots,” police said in a statement. A SWAT team was called to the scene, and police began searching the encampment where they believed the suspect had hidden inside a tent, the LAPD reported.
