Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre is accusing the Liberal government of erasing historical symbols to make the country a “blank slate” in order to reshape it along government ideology.
In a video released on May 13, Poilievre raised the new passport design unveiled by authorities last week, with depictions of historical figures and events being replaced by generic drawings.
To understand why this was done, “you need to get the country that Trudeau wants us to become,” says Poilievre.
The video shows a clip of Justin Trudeau saying in 2013 that he has a “level of admiration” for China’s “basic dictatorship.” Poilievre also reads from Trudeau’s 2016 eulogy of former Cuban communist dictator Fidel Castro, which called him “legendary” and “larger than life.”…
