Pfizer and BioNTech announced Friday that their vaccine can be can be stored at higher than the ultra-low temperatures they had previously specified. The companies announced they have submitted new data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that shows the COVID-19 vaccine can be stored at -25 to -15 degrees Celsius (-13 to 5 degrees Fahrenheit), proposing a new update to the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) prescribing information. “If approved, this new storage option would offer pharmacies and vaccination centers greater flexibility in how they manage their vaccine supply,” Pfizer’s Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla said in a statement. The vaccine, which uses new so-called mRNA technology, can be stored at the specified higher temperatures for up to two weeks, the companies announced.
