A Palestinian killed three Israelis near a Jewish settlement in the West Bank on Tuesday, hours before Israel swore in lawmakers set to return Benjamin Netanyahu to power atop a conservative coalition.
The attack occurred at Ariel settlement’s industrial zone, which Israeli officials said was carried out by a knife-wielding man who was later shot dead by a soldier.
The West Bank is a Palestinian area that Israel captured in the six-day war in 1967, and which has since been peppered with Jewish settlements, deeming the land a biblical birthright and security bulwark.
The Religious Zionism party, led by hardline West Bank settlers, placed third in Israel’s Nov. 1 election, making it the likely no. 2 partner in the next government under ex-Prime Minister Netanyahu’s conservative Likud, which won the most votes….
