VAN NUYS, Calif.—Firefighters contained and extinguished a fire that spread to the roof of a two-story commercial building in Van Nuys April 12.
Fire crews responded at 3:27 a.m. to 6740 N. Kester Ave. south of Vanowen Street where they found at least three units in the 15,500-square-foot building engulfed in flames, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Regarding initial reports of a pet dog dying in the fire, a statement from the fire department said, “Upon very close examination, debris within the heavily damaged and smoke-charged building that strongly resembled a burnt pet canine thankfully proved not to be an animal.”…
