Federal prosecutors obtained their first guilty plea in relation to the Capitol breach on Jan. 6. Jon Schaffer, 53, of Indiana and a member of the Oath Keepers, pleaded guilty to “unlawfully entering the U.S. Capitol to obstruct Congress’ certification of the U.S. presidential election results,” according to the Department of Justice (DOJ.) The Oath Keepers define themselves as a “Non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders, who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to ‘defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.'” The DOJ said that Schaffer was donning a tactical vest and had bear repellent during the breach. “Oath Keepers member Jon Schaffer has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, including for breaching the Capitol while wearing a tactical vest and armed with bear spray, with the intent to interfere with Congress’ certification of the Electoral College results,” said …
