Over 1,000 unionized workers at The New York Times began a strike after pledging last week that they would walk out and “stop work for 24 hours on Thursday, Dec. 8” if they do not have a deal for a complete and equitable contract by then.
The NewsGuild of New York, the union which represents the workers, released the statement on Dec. 2, demanding that the company start bargaining in good faith and do whatever it takes to finish this contract by the Dec. 8 deadline.
A number of employees are expected to be seen outside of the NYT office building after lunchtime, with some prominent journalists expected to speak in a solidarity rally….
