New York State and city together have paid drag performers over $200,000 for appearances in New York City public schools since 2018, a report says.
Drag Story Hour NYC, an organization previously known as Drag Queen Story Hour NYC, has received $50,000 from the state’s Council on the Arts, as well as $157,000 from the city’s Departments of Education, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Community Development, and Transportation, according to records obtained by The New York Post.
Since the beginning of this year, Drag Story Hour has organized 49 appearances in 34 elementary, middle, and high schools across the city. The group in May alone made $46,000 in public funds for its appearances at schools, festivals, and libraries….
