A New York man has been sentenced to two years in prison on Jan. 3 for conspiring to steal trade secrets from American multinational company General Electric (GE) to benefit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Xiaoqing Zheng, 59, of Niskayuna, New York, was convicted of conspiracy to commit economic espionage in March 2022, the Department of Justice stated. He had a jury trial that lasted four weeks.
U.S. District Judge Mae D’Agostino also ordered Zheng to pay a $7,500 fine and serve one year of post-imprisonment supervised release.
Zheng was an engineer specializing in turbine sealing technology as an employee at GE Power in Schenectady, New York. He worked there from 2008 until the summer of 2018….
