The eight-round of talks aimed at salvaging Iran’s tattered 2015 nuclear deal will resume on Dec. 27, the European Union’s coordinator of the talks confirmed on Thursday. “Welcome to the 8th round,” Spanish diplomat Enrique Mora said on Twitter, noting that the continuation of negotiations will be held on Dec. 27 in Vienna, Austria. “The #JCPOA Joint Commission will meet to discuss and define the way ahead,” he added, using the acronym for the deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. “Important to pick up the pace on key outstanding issues and move forward, working closely with the [United States].” Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to the Vienna-based international organizations, said in a statement it usually isn’t very popular “to engage in serious business” during Christmas and New Year, but negotiators don’t want to waste time and instead aim at the speediest restoration of the deal.
