A Michigan elections official and former township clerk was charged with ballot tampering related to the August 2020 primary election, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Kathy Funk, who was running as a Democrat, was also charged with misconduct in office, said Nessel. The charges, which are both felonies, carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Nessel alleged that Funk, who was previously employed as the Flint Township clerk, purposely broke a seal on a container for ballots so that the votes could not be counted during a recount.
