A Senate Democrat on Tuesday said he doesn’t support the large minimum wage hike that’s part of President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 relief package, imperiling the plan of passing the package without Republican support. “No, I’m not. I’m supportive of basically having something that’s responsible and reasonable,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) told The Hill when asked if he supports the minimum wage increase to $15 an hour. Manchin said he views $11 an hour per hour, adjusted to inflation, as reasonable for West Virginia. Democrats are attempting to push through the $1.9 billion package crafted by Biden’s team without Republican support, but will need all 50 Democratic senators to vote yes or the plan falls apart.
