A man shot dead by the Quebec police at his home on July 27 has been identified as an RCMP officer who allegedly seriously injured a woman and a teenager.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:05 a.m. on July 27 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu—a city about 40 kilometres southeast of Montreal—according to a French-language statement from the province’s independent police oversight agency, Bureau des enquêtes indépendates (BEI).
Preliminary information provided to BEI indicates that the 48-year-old man “called 911, saying that he had just committed the unforgivable [‘l’irréparable’ in French],” the statement reads.
Officers from the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police department arrived at the man’s residence, located on rue du Biat, where they found the man armed with a knife, according to the statement….
