A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a British member of Parliament Sir David Amess. Ali Harbi Ali, of north London, was charged on Thursday with murder and preparation of terrorist acts, the Metropolitan Police said. The charges were authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) Special Crime and Counter-Terrorism Division (SCCTD), the Met said. Ali was arrested on Oct. 15 after Amess, a 69-year-old MP for Southend West, was fatally stabbed while meeting local voters at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea. He will remain in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Oct.21.
