The Los Angeles Police Commission approved Nov. 22 a $119 million budget increase for the 2023–2024 fiscal year, adding to its current $3.15 billion budget.
The budget will be sent to the mayor and city council for approval. If passed, the start of the fiscal year begins July 1.
“We believe that establishing this goal, this high waterpoint, needs to be done,” LA Police Chief Michel Moore told the commission during the meeting. “Otherwise, we’re going to be satisfied with a workforce that is too small for the demands of the city and the needs of the city.”
