Laguna Beach manager John Pietig says he’s stepping down in June after more than three decades of public service. “The City of Laguna Beach is an extraordinary place,” Pietig said in a press release announcing his impending retirement. “Our community is involved, aware and very engaged… It is truly an honor and privilege to serve this special community.” Pietig spent 20 years working for Laguna Beach; he spent his first 10 years as assistant city manager before being promoted to city manager. His overall municipal government career spans 32 years. During his time with the city, he helped bring crime rates to historic lows, addressed homelessness, and led Laguna Beach through recessions.
