A jury on May 31 found former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann not guilty of lying to the FBI.
Sussmann was charged with one count of lying to the government because he told a bureau official ahead of the 2016 presidential election that he was not bringing derogatory information about then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and Russia on behalf of a client.
“I have something time-sensitive (and sensitive) I need to discuss,” Sussmann wrote to FBI lawyer James Baker before the meeting. “I’m coming on my own—not on behalf of a client or company—want to help the Bureau.”
Both Sussmann and his firm later acknowledged he was bringing the information on behalf of a client, though they claimed it was not on behalf of Trump’s 2016 presidential rival, Hillary Clinton….
