The United States, United Kingdom, European Union, and Taiwan have voiced concern at the Hong Kong government’s subversion charges directed at 47 pro-democracy activists under the pro-Beijing national security law on Sunday. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken took to Twitter late on Sunday night to condemn the detentions and charges against the activists, saying that “freedom of expression” should not be a crime.
