TORONTO—Christine Cardoso, a dance instructor who runs her own studio, says she appreciates all the hard work that goes into Shen Yun Performing Arts performances. “It takes a lot of work to get all that precise movement. … There’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes,” Ms. Cardoso said after seeing Shen Yun at the Four Seasons Centre in Toronto on April 9. “Everything, all of it, I love it all.” Based in New York, Shen Yun presents classical Chinese dance and music. The performing arts company aims to revive China’s traditional culture. Besides talented dancers, Shen Yun features an orchestra that blends traditional Chinese instruments into a classical Western orchestra, a patented animated backdrop technology that allows for the interaction of the dancers with the background, and hand-made colorful costumes.
