Category 4 Hurricane Ian is making landfall over the west coast of Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis said on Wednesday afternoon.
Hurricane Ian “is making landfall now,” the governor wrote on Twitter shortly before 2 p.m. EST. “Florida is ready to respond. We have fleets of highwater vehicles, 42,000 linemen, 7,000 National Guardsmen and 179 aircraft prepared to help,” he added.
